"OFF THE RACK" Episode 1

I loved this gold and black peplum dress from the moment I saw it.  It was very affordable so I purchased it from Curve Culture (unfortunately it's no longer available).  Curve Culture is a plus size online boutique that I started following maybe a year ago.

I like the way they promote their fashions.  Unfortunately, I haven't had many places to wear this beauty so it has sat in my closet for months.  I decided to pull it out for the first episode of "Off The Rack" and give it a whirl.

When I first tried it on I was unimpressed because my spirits was very low at the time.  On top of that everyone I showed the garment to was not excited about it.  I was told by one stylist that they thought it was too flashy.

However, a few weeks later I tried it on again and I liked what I saw.  I immediately started grabbing jewelry pieces from my collection and everything came together.

I like this dress because it conceals the areas on my body I want to draw less attention to.

My arms

My arms are huge.  Okay that may be exaggerating a little bit, but my arms are big.  It can sometimes be a deal breaker for me when purchasing clothes if they fit in every area but my arms.  I hate finding the perfect top or dress only to have it fit tight in the sleeve.  This dress provides the perfect remedy with its bubbled-ruffled sleeve.  This ruffled detail allowed me to adjust the sleeve to the length that was best for me and helped keep it in place.

My tummy

The peplum detail on this dress diverts attention away from the shape of my stomach.  Of course, you can still see that I have a pudge but the shape and outline is a little bit more hidden because of that detail.  The dress is straight but flexible.  The peplum portion of the dress bubbles out slightly and gives the dress movement.

I like this dress because it draws attention away from the parts of my body that I feel are less flattering.  It's not always easy to pull this off in a fun and fashionable way.  There always seems to be a compromise when it comes to fashion and life and even in relationships.

However, every now and then you come across something and maybe someone that fits just right! At that point, you can't help but to show it off!  Check out the video below for the first episode of OFF THE RACK and stay tuned for the next episode.

When the Mic Crosses the Line: The ASU Honey Beez, Joe Bullard, and the Fight for Respect BY Phatabulous Magazine Staff 10-5-2025 It was supposed to be another electric halftime show , the type of performance that makes HBCU culture shine. But what should’ve ended with applause and celebration turned into a moment that stunned thousands both in the stands and online. As the Alabama State University Honey Beez, a nationally recognized plus-size dance team, exited the field after their energetic performance against Florida A&M University, FAMU’s longtime band announcer Joe Bullard took the mic and made a comment that has since echoed far beyond the stadium: “The new face of Ozempic.” The remark, referencing a popular weight loss drug, drew audible gasps from the crowd. In video clips that quickly went viral, you can hear fans questioning what they just heard. What was meant to be a lighthearted halftime moment suddenly turned into a public moment of body-shaming, disrespect, and disb...

Ask Candace - Why Do I Still Struggle To Love My Body?

Ask Candace Is Back - #2 There’s something powerful about questions that linger. A while back, we invited readers to write in, about love, bodies, confidence, boundaries, and the quiet thoughts that don’t always make it into group chats. The responses came. Some arrived quickly. Others trickled in over time. And a few sat with me for a while, waiting for the right moment. That moment is now. Ask Candace was always meant to be a space where honesty could breathe. Not perfection. Not performance. Just real conversations about navigating life in a body, and a world, that often has too many opinions. Since our last column, so much has shifted. Bodies are being policed again. Thinness is being repackaged as “wellness.” Dating feels heavier. Many of us are healing, unlearning, starting over, and redefining confidence on our own terms. So we’re bringing Ask Candace back, not because I have all the answers, but because sometimes what we need most is to be reminded that we’re not alone, not bro...

When Jokes Cross the Line - What Cardi B's Comments Really Reveal

When Jokes Cross the Line What Cardi B's Comments Really Reveal Phatabulous Magazine Staff Growing up, I was always the fat one. There were other girls with my name, but I was always described as “the short fat one.” I hated it. I never got so used to it that I was okay with it, I just learned not to lash out every time. Most of the time, I let it go because I realized people weren’t trying to get a rise out of me. Maybe they didn’t know. Maybe they didn’t care. But the truth is, it always hurt. That’s why when Cardi B, one of the most recognizable celebrities in the world, made recent comments that many found fatphobic, it struck a nerve. While speaking with fans online about her WWE t-shirts selling out, Cardi joked: “The box sets are completely sold out, especially because you fat fks — clearly you guys are fat as fk, no Chick-fil-A for y’all.” She went on to say: “Now, knowing that my fans is fat, I can’t even make fun of fat people no more. Don’t call me fatphobic, y’all, ’cau...
